Alleged 1952 Washington UFO Tape Set for Public Release
A recording purportedly made in 1952 of a closed‑door meeting among senior U.S. officials discussing unidentified flying objects is slated to be made public, according to a press release from the organization that claims to own the tape. The group, which describes itself as a “historical archive of declassified government material,” says the audio features senior officials from the State Department, the CIA, and the Air Force speaking about “the growing number of sightings” and “possible national security implications.” The release does not provide a transcript, and the organization has not offered to submit the original reel to an independent laboratory for verification.
The claim first appeared in a New York Post article that cited an unnamed source within the archive. No other media outlet has independently confirmed the tape’s existence, and the National Archives and Records Administration has not been asked to comment on any request for records from that period. Researchers familiar with Cold War-era UFO investigations note that while the government did hold classified briefings on aerial phenomena—most famously the 1947 “Project Sign” and later “Project Blue Book”—no publicly known recordings of such meetings have surfaced.
Skeptics point out that audio technology in the early 1950s was limited, and that many alleged “secret” recordings from that era have later been identified as later recreations or hoaxes. The archive’s spokesperson said the tape will be released on a streaming platform next month, but did not specify whether any forensic analysis will accompany it.
If the recording proves authentic, it could add to the documented history of official interest in UFOs during the early Cold War. Until the tape is examined by independent experts, its provenance and content remain unverified.
