A hobby shop in the Quad Cities called Playcrafters announced a charity event to raise money for a group that conducts investigations of alleged paranormal activity. According to a press release from the store, the fundraiser will include a tabletop gaming tournament, a silent auction of gaming memorabilia, and a short presentation by the investigators, who say they are seeking funds to purchase equipment such as infrared cameras and audio recorders.

The investigators, who operate under the name “Spectral Seekers,” claim to have documented unexplained sounds and visual anomalies at several historic sites in the region, including an abandoned warehouse and a 19th‑century farmhouse. They have not published their findings in peer‑reviewed journals, and no independent verification of the alleged phenomena has been offered. Playcrafters’ owner, who posted the announcement on the store’s social‑media page, said the event is intended to support “community curiosity” and to give local gamers a chance to contribute to a “scientific‑style” inquiry.

Critics note that many reports of hauntings can be explained by environmental factors such as drafts, building acoustics, or electromagnetic interference, and that rigorous testing is required to rule out such mundane causes. The store’s event does not appear to involve any academic institution or professional paranormal research organization, which some experts consider a standard for credible investigation.

The fundraiser is scheduled for next Saturday at Playcrafters’ downtown location, with tickets priced at $15 for participants and $5 for observers. Proceeds will be directed to the Spectral Seekers’ equipment fund, according to the organizers.
